SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to connect to a web server and carry out different tasks through a command line. The protocol is preferred by many knowledgeable users, because the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access could be employed for a number of things depending on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the web server allows for it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually everything - you may install software or restart specific services including the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which permit you to employ the protocol if your computer system is using a different Operating System too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a number of service providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Shared Web Hosting
SSH access is offered with all shared web hosting that we provide. With some of them, it is featured by default, while with others it is an optional upgrade which you can add with just a few mouse clicks from your web hosting CP. You can obtain SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you can also find the info which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can choose the password that you'll use and, if required, you will be able to change it with a few clicks from the same location. All the commands which may be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
You shall be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account using SSH no matter which package you pick when you sign up. With some packages, the function is included as standard, and with others, it may be added as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You shall find the needed login information within the Hepsia CP, supplied with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You will be able to pick the password you'll use and if you want to, you could change it regularly with several clicks for even higher security. You'll be able to see all the commands that you can use beforehand, as we have listed them together with examples of how they are used in order to execute a particular task. Once SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is enabled, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
If you buy a new VPS server from our company, it will feature full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to manage everything through an SSH console. The feature is included as standard with all plans, so you will not have to activate or upgrade anything. Your hosting server shall be set up right after you purchase it and the moment you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you can connect using the server’s main IP address and begin working. Given that the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts on the physical machine, there won't be any restrictions with regards to the commands that you can use. You shall have full root access, so you can set up and run any application that can work on a Linux web server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software operating on it.
