Password Protected Directories
Find out how to create a safe and user-only area in your website with password-protected directories.
If you want to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you could switch on password protection for a specific folder - either the primary website folder or a different one below it. When this function is active, a pop-up will appear each time someone attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login info will be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg when you have protected only the domain.com folder. In case the details aren't valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there's no way to get around this restriction, so you can be positive that no one will be able to access the protected content. The feature could be helpful in numerous cases - if only a number of individuals should be able to see certain files, if you work on a site and you don't want people to see it before it is completed, etc.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Web Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take just several clicks and a few seconds if you host your Internet sites within a
shared web hosting account with our company. You won't have to do anything complex - you will have to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it must be protected, and then to input the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. If a number of people require their own login details, there shall not be a problem to set up a variety of different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this function is activated. If you would like to disable the protection feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
It will require a few mouse clicks to activate the password protection function for any folder which you have, if you use one of our
semi-dedicated servers. We have an exceptionally helpful tool, that has a user-friendly point-and-click interface and which can be used by people without any experience. It's part of the Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to manage your new account and once you log in and navigate to the Password Protection section, you'll be able to pick the domain or subdomain which needs to be secured and then the specific folder - either the primary folder or any subfolder under it. You will also see 2 boxes where you shall have to type the login name and the password that will be required to access the folder in question and you shall be ready. By following exactly the same steps, you can create a variety of login credentials for the same folder to give several individuals their own username/password. All protected folders will have a small padlock sign in the File Manager section.
