Every single personal computer or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, as well as any apps that are currently installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, each and every application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. If a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so you will be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
If you choose to buy one of our VPS server packages, you shall be able to opt for one of the three Linux distributions that we offer for the Operating System of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are among the most well-known and most dependable server OSs out there and we offer them in order to give you a choice for the software environment of your machine if you need to install some app with precise requirements regarding the packages that must be present on the web hosting server. We also offer three internet hosting Control Panels and which one of them you may use will depend on the OS that you have selected. We leave the possibility to replace the server Operating System open, so if you want to use an application that requires an OS different from the one that's already present, we can always re-install the VPS. We can also keep the OS up-to-date on a weekly basis by installing all the security updates that may be available.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page since we want to give you a wider choice with regard to the system environment on the machine as different applications may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and risk-free hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you would like to run. We can also update your OS regularly to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
