DomainKeys Identified Mail
What lies behind the abbreviation DKIM? How can this feature help your e-mail marketing strategies?
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication system used to certify that an e-mail message has been sent by an authenticated individual or mail server. An electronic signature is added to the email message’s header by using a private cryptographic key. When the message is received, a public key that’s available in the global Domain Name System is used to validate who actually sent it and whether the content has been edited in any way. The essential purpose of DKIM is to hinder the widespread spam and scam email messages, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank, for example, but the signature does not match, you will either not get the message at all, or you will receive it with an alert that most likely it’s not genuine. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email which fails to pass the signature test. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also offer you an additional layer of protection when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, as they can see that all the emails that you send are legitimate and have not been tampered with in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Shared Web Hosting
If you get any of the
shared web hosting that we are offering, the DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality will be activated by default for any domain that you add to your account, so you will not need to create any records or to enable anything manually. When a domain is added in the Hosted Domains section of our custom-developed Hepsia Control Panel using our NS and MX records (so that the email messages associated with this domain will be handled by our cloud hosting platform), a private cryptographic key will be issued instantly on our email servers and a TXT record with a public key will be sent to the Domain Name System. All addresses created with this domain will be protected by DKIM, so if you send out emails such as periodic newsletters, they will reach their target audience and the receivers will know that they are legitimate, since the DKIM option makes it impossible for unsolicited parties to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers
The DomainKeys Identified Mail protection service comes by default with any domain name that is registered through a
semi-dedicated server account with our company. The domain should also use our name servers, so that its DNS records are handled by our system. The latter makes it possible for a special TXT resource record to be set up, which is in fact the public cryptographic key that verifies if a given email is legitimate or not. This record is set up once a domain name is added to a semi-dedicated account through the Hepsia Control Panel and in the meantime, a private key is created on our mail servers. If you use our web and email hosting services, your emails will always reach their target audience and you will not have to worry about unauthorized parties forging your addresses for spamming or scamming purposes, which is essential if you use emails to communicate with your business collaborators.
